John Brown, affectionately known as “Smokey” or “Smoke,” was born on April 3, 1990, and is a renowned American football wide receiver currently a free agent. He played college football at Pittsburg State and was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Throughout his dynamic career, Brown has played for several teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
High School Career
Hailing from Homestead, Florida, John attended Homestead High School, where his exceptional talent on the football field earned him the honor of being an All-Dade County selection during his senior year in 2007.
College Career
In 2008, John began his college football journey at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, North Carolina. As a freshman, he made an immediate impact by being named the SAC Freshman of the Year. He caught 27 passes for 619 yards and seven touchdowns while leading his team with 1,472 all-purpose yards. Despite facing academic challenges that sidelined him in 2009, John transferred to Coffeyville Community College in 2010. However, he was redshirted that year.
The loss of his half-brother, James Walker, to gun violence deeply affected John but also fueled his determination to continue playing football. His perseverance paid off when he earned a scholarship to play for Pittsburg State University. There, he excelled, becoming a second-team AP Little All-American in 2011 and leading Pittsburg State to the NCAA Division II National Championship. Over the years, John earned numerous accolades, including being named the MIAA and NCAA Division II National Special Teams Player of the Year. He finished his college career as Pitt State’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, leaving an indelible mark on the program.
